Ann Signey, M.S., LPC

Happily treating kids through play age 3 to 13.

I started my journey as an educator hoping to make a difference in the lives of children. While working with students on a low socioeconomic campus, I came to the realization that there is more to a classroom than just the academics.

These children taught me the power of relationships, and the importance of social emotional well-being. My students inspired me to pursue my education in Counseling, where I learned how to help children navigate their struggles through play and activity therapy.

Empathic Supporter

Whether your child is struggling with a peer conflict, sibling rivalry, or even just managing growing pains, I will provide a safe space to work through the obstacles he or she may face. There is no such thing as silly or insignificant matters; everything holds meaning and I will be a listening ear

Active Liaison

My passion as an educator led me to become an advocate for parents and students. My experience in both a school and clinical setting has provided me with the knowledge and skills to facilitate conversations, whether it be in support of a healthier relationship between parent and child or a partnership with your child’s school. You are not alone on this journey, as you can count on me to consider what’s in the best interest of your family.

Creative Challenger

Though challenger often bears a negative connotation, I find that it elicits the change an individual is seeking in order to improve. Many people, including myself, live in a world of absolutes: I must be … It’s always … I never … What these individuals fail to realize is that nothing is ever certain. In a world that’s ever changing, we have the opportunity to write and rewrite our stories until we find what brings us peace and joy.

  • The Whole-Brain Child: 12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child’s Developing Mind by Daniel J. Siegel, M.D.  and Tina Payne Bryson, Ph.D. – I can’t recommend this book enough to anyone who works with children (teachers included)! The authors provide amazing, concrete examples of scenarios that you may run into with your children, as well as graphics for quick review of strategies to practice at home. This book explains how your child’s brain functions, and helps you understand why they are who they are!

  • Nurture Shock: New Thinking About Children by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman – I recommend this book because it provides a different take on some of the most common misconceptions about our children. This book marries science and pop culture references to help us understand how to truly nurture our children’s development.

  • How to Talk So Kids Will Listen … And Listen So Kids Will Talk by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish – Similar to The Whole-Brain Child (see recommendation above), this book offers scenarios and graphics that help you improve your communication with your child. It is a quick and easy read, and provides you with prompts to practice your responses!

I earned my Master’s Degree in Counseling at Southern Methodist University in 2018, and my Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Minor in Education at Texas Woman’s University in 2014.

In addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern, I am also a certified School Counselor in a local school district. I work with elementary school aged children and love being able to support students through academic counseling, conflict resolution, and family matters. My experience in this realm has helped me build my capacity to provide parent consults in support of your child’s academic and social emotional achievement.

In my free time, I enjoy baking, crafting, and traveling to new places and trying different local cuisines that the cities have to offer! My husband and I enjoy healthy competition every once in awhile, and spend our mornings working out and evenings playing board or video games with our friends and family.
