Adolescent development is a transitional stage for teens and their families. This stage involves biological, social, and psychological changes. In order to ensure that teens and adults navigate these changes successfully one must understand what is happening to the teen; how these changes affect teens; what families can do to support teens; and what community support systems are available.
Counselors that accept the challenge of working with adolescents will need to be non-judgmental of the teen’s ideas, thoughts, culture, and decisions regardless of how these topics are presented. The counselor will be one that takes into account the era of mobile phones, iPods, popular music, movies, television programs, web sites, sports, video games, and clothing and the affect on the adolescent while communicating effectively both verbally and non-verbally on issues of:

By now they think they can handle all that life throws at them and when they find themselves needing help, you, the parent are often times not the easiest person for them to share all that they are experiencing. Please do take that personally, we are here to help.
