Jenny Wang, M.A., LPC
Serving Children, Adolescents, Adults, Couples and Families…
We’ve all experienced feelings of loss and hopelessness; however, if you find yourself treading water in the sea of doubt, doubt that things will ever change or get better, I am here with a lifeline to help you begin the journey towards health.
I will walk alongside you on your journey of change as a guide and a compassionate companion.
My approach to counseling is a mix of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and Attachment Therapy. Just as no two individuals or situations are the same, I believe that our time of counseling together will be catered specifically to you. I will always have three general goals with my clients.
- Provide the tools to find the way through difficult issues and the feelings that arise
- Provide a safe place to deal with those difficult issues
- Discover purpose behind the pain
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin and my Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary. Previous to I Choose Change, I have worked in the non-profit sector dealing with trauma and abuse at The Turning Point: Collin County Rape Crisis Center and Mosaic Family Services. I am experienced in the following areas:
- Domestic Violence issues
- Children of abused parents
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Sexual and physical abuse (adults and children)
- Adults who were molested as children
- Emotional trauma
- Marriage issues
- Adolescent struggles
- Crisis counseling
- Psychotherapy and psycho-educational groups
- Multicultural and socioeconomically diverse populations
As a second generation Asian American (my parents came to the United States to finish their graduate work), one of my passions is to help bridge the cultural and generational difficulties of immigrant parents and their bi-cultural children. Because of my diverse background, I am able to understand the different struggles and apprehension to accept outside help that may be an obstacle to change. I believe that, just by innately understanding that struggle, I can help you take the step towards a healthier you.
Besides being a counselor, I have been married to my husband for 12 years and a mom of three! I definitely understand the struggles of balance and the importance of seeking change for destructive thoughts and habits in order to bring health to your family and relationships.
