Serving Children, Adolescents, and Families
Are you looking to make real change in your family life, or understand how to restructure your parenting style for the sake of your children?
Are you wondering how to parent your child in a different way?
Are you faced with divorce, separation, or a difficult marriage and need support?
I can help! I’m your source of knowledge and education when it comes to understanding your child’s temperament and behavior style – I’m here to listen and help empower you and your child.
Finding a therapist and seeking advice can be a difficult step to take, especially when it involves our children. I know… I’m a mom, too! In my opinion, seeking the advice from a professional is a giant leap in the right direction! Let’s work together to re-align your parent and family goals, and tackle your tough issues.
My philosophy, learned from Alfred Adler is that our life is altered from childhood from our own experience, impressions, and perceived successes and failures. In our sessions, we’ll take a look at your childhood to understand how your experiences shaped who you are today in all aspects of life. I’ll offer suggestions on how to reach your new goals – yours, your child’s and your family’s! I believe you have the ability to change or enhance your life in a more positive way, through guidance, education, support and encouragement.
My true passion is Child-Centered Play Therapy, and am a true believer in its process; however, when the need arises i use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in sessions with children.
Both techniques focus on the effectiveness of the relationship and building trust with an adult as well as the use of toys to help the child express themselves. Play allows children to be in their natural environment of playing – they can be spontaneous, creative, and expressive as they learn about their sticky, prickly emotions, understand their feelings, work through difficulties, raise their self-esteem and self-confidence confidence.
Getting parents involved is one, of if the not THE most important aspect in working with children. I can teach the parent Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to use with their children, which are more behavior-based and used to help children understand why they do some of the things they do, helping them begin to make better choices.
I often use “Think Good, Feel Good” as a resource in my sessions, and encourage all my parents to get this great resource as well.
With a Bachelor of Psychology and Masters in Counseling from the University of North Texas, and experience in a non-profit agency in Plano with troubled children and adolescents in crisis, I am eager to help in the following areas:
- Play Therapy
- Anxiety and Stress
- Depression
- Divorce, Separation and Family Restructuring
- ADHD
- Grief
- Trauma
When I am not counseling, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I am a new mom and am loving every minute of seeing my son grow and discover his world. My husband and I have been married for almost 5 years and are proud parents to our son and enjoy doing things together as a family.
