I am obsessed with Viktor Frankl and Logotherapy. Many of my beliefs have formed from his counseling theory of finding meaning and purpose in our lives. My favorite quote from Dr. Frankl is, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way”. I want to help you or your child (and you) discover how to transform harmful thinking patterns into a resilient, joyful and confident mindset.
MORE ABOUT ME
THE EDUCATION STUFF:
I received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology from Kansas State University and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary. I am currently in the process of earning a PhD in Clinical Counseling from Walden University. I have worked in the mental health field for 10 years and currently lead individual, group and family therapy at a local inpatient psychiatric hospital and in this private practice setting. I am supervised by Debra Crown, LPC-Supervisor and should be fully licensed this summer. I am currently an LPC-Intern #78484 and LCDC-Intern. I hold three current aggression/crisis management licenses of PPMAB, SAMA Satori, and Crisis Prevention Intervention.
THE FUN STUFF:
I have an adorable, old lab mix that is known in my friends group as “Pet Cow”. Please ask me to show you a picture! I also was lucky enough to marry my best friend when we were in college and all these years later we have two boys under the age of two and miraculously still like each other most days. Talk about a lesson in the importance of sleep and self care! I love being the mom of two very boy-ish boys, because we are diehard college football fans (Go K-state) and love everything outdoors. We sometimes dream of living a simple life with a cabin in the woods, an alpaca and way too many dogs. Without sounding “too hippyish” nature is our thing and where I am able to best rejuvenate.
I believe our identity is molded in childhood from our own experiences, impressions, and perceived successes and failures. In our sessions, I’ll offer suggestions on how to help your child and teen reach new goals. It’s important to help them feel like they’ve succeeded!
My true passion is working with children and teens. While I engage in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with many of my adolescents, and am a true believer in its process, I am more directive when your child needs it, especially with teens. Getting you, the parent involved is very important in my work with your son or daughter.
