Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about me. Like many of you, I’m trying hard to juggle the many activities and responsibilities of life. Some of my favorite responsibilities are my husband and two kids. Not only do they keep challenging me every day, but they also keep driving me forward to become a better wife, mother and person. Throughout the years, I have loved getting to know people of all backgrounds and learning how to connect with them. Counseling is a joy that I’ve had the pleasure of doing in a variety of settings. When I’m not working or taking care of the munchkins in my house, I can be found reading, making jewelry, watching Frasier, playing with my dog, or enjoying a rare shopping trip!

I love working with kids on expressing emotions, communicating, processing events,
and learning the give and take of relationships.

Parenting Concierge

I absolutely love this crazy role in life called parenting. It truly is the longest and shortest time! As often as we’re told to enjoy every moment and as much as we truly want to, we all know that some moments are just awful. Sometimes we don’t get sleep, fight with our spouse and feel like we’re failing as a parent. It’s these moments that I want to help you with. I really struggled after having our first and grew passionate about helping parents during the (sometimes traumatic) waves of parenthood. There are so many opinions out there that it’s essential to start with your expectations of what kind of parent you want to be. And then, you work to accept yourself as you are. I’d love to help you with that.

Play Therapist

Seeing kids as young as 3 years old, I love working with kids on expressing emotions, communicating, processing events, and learning the give and take of relationships. I involve parents in the process because you are the most important relationship in your child’s life. Together we can work through the challenges you see at home and what you’d like to focus on during therapy.

Transition Navigator

With so many things going on these days, it’s easy to find yourself lost in multiple life events, sometimes losing your footing. Whether you need someone to help interpret what direction you want to take or simply need a collaborator to sort out your choices and priorities, I am happy to walk alongside you. Counseling can be one of the many tools you use when you need one.

Books I Recommend

  • How To Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish – This book provides great information on how to communicate with your kids beyond the “uh huh.” One of the most amazing revelations while reading this is how simple it can be to help your kids express themselves.

  • Boundaries by Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend –  No matter your background upbringing or culture, everyone has something in common… relationships. This book teaches the importance of keeping relationships healthy so that they’re balanced and help you navigate through life’s ups and downs.

  • The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines – While it’s important to strive for learning and growing, it’s also important to laugh and enjoy the intricacies of life. This couple’s story is easy and fun to read and I had a hard time putting it down. Sometimes we need simple pleasures to remember how much fun life can be!

MORE ABOUT ME

I earned my BS in Psychology with a Business minor from Texas A&M University (go Aggies!) and my MA in Counseling from Saint Louis University. After my degree, my husband and I lived in St. Louis for 8 years where I gained certification in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy and worked on depression research studies as a therapist. After we had our daughter, we quickly realized that we needed more support as parents, so we high-tailed it back to Dallas. Since being back, I have worked at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Clinical Research while counseling part-time.

  • Certified in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) which is an evidence-based treatment for young children with behavioral problems. The therapist provides real-time feedback on how you can interact and help your child.

  • Trained in Motivational Interviewing in which I will encourage you to talk about your need for change and your own reasons for wanting to change. My role is mainly to evoke a conversation about change and commitment.

  • Trained in Interpersonal Psychotherapy which is a 12-16 program based on the principle that relationships and life events impact mood and that the reverse is also true.
