Week 26′s Change Challenge – Make A Self-Portrait

I volunteer with an organization that helps children process the grief of losing a loved one.  During group time last night, we had the 7 and 8 year olds look into a mirror and talk about positive attributes they saw in themselves.  We emphasized to look beyond appearances and find who they thought they were on the inside.  This activity was difficult for all of them, but eventually most of the boys were able to say things like “I am kind and compassionate” or “I am smart”.  The girls, on the other hand, gave up on the activity pretty quickly.  I found this curious, although I have my own theories about this.

This week’s challenge is to follow in these kids’ footsteps.  Spend some time this week looking at yourself in the mirror and listing positive qualities, both physical and internal, about you.  Really focus on building yourself up.

Then make a self portrait.  This can either be a photo or a drawing or a collage.  Be creative.

Maybe if we, as women, are able to do this well and model it, our younger generation will be able to see their own positive qualities.
